Urgent Applications

When the urgency of a matter is such that it requires urgent or immediate legal intervention an urgent application to court can be made. The urgent court can be approached at any time of the day or night as needs be. Since all court proceedings requires adherence to strict rules and time periods, usually over several months, urgent applications are essentially asking a court to condone an applicant's non-compliance with the court's rules. An urgent court will first make a ruling on the urgency of the matter before it considers the merits. The applicant has to convince the court why its matter should take preference over other matters (opposed and unopposed motions) that have to be made in the usual cause.
